‘Now & Then’, Track 5: ‘At Dawning (I Love You)’

‘At Dawning (I Love You)’ is an old opera song, written in 1906 by Nelle Richmond Eberhart and Charles Wakefield Cadman. We were handed the original sheet music to this song by a friend of ours named Melissa. She was getting married, and wanted this song to be played at her wedding–it was played at her grandmother’s wedding,... [Read more of this review]

‘Now & Then’, Track 4: ‘Bones’

‘Now & Then’, Track 4: ‘Bones’ The song ‘Bones’ was originally written by Willy Tea Taylor. We were introduced to Will’s work by a friend of ours named Casey Weber, right about the time we were going through some hard-working times in our lives. I gave the album a listen and bought it right away, and it spun in the CD... [Read more of this review]

‘Now & Then’, Track 3: ‘So Lonesome I Could Cry’

‘Now & Then’, Track 3: ‘So Lonesome I Could Cry’ ‘So Lonesome I Could Cry’ was written by Hank Williams in 1949, and is perhaps the best-known track on this album. The song has an interesting history in the life of Westbound; and as an aside, when we say “Hank Williams”, we always mean “Hank... [Read more of this review]

‘Now & Then’, Track 2: ‘Railroad Boy’

‘Now & Then’, Track 2: ‘Railroad Boy’ ‘Railroad Boy’, otherwise known as ‘The Butcher’s Boy’ is an Irish folk song, likely an amalgam of several different ballads. It is also found in American versions, which makes the true origin of the song difficult to trace. It seems to be a song about a girl... [Read more of this review]

‘Now & Then’, Track 1: ‘Go Down Moses’

Our second album, ‘Now & Then’ will be released on May 19th, 2012. On this record we’re paying respect to songwriters past and present, and as always–we encourage you to look up these artists, learn about them and buy their music. Help them by telling your friends and spreading the word; that’s how independent music... [Read more of this review]

Our second record, ‘Now & Then’

On May 19th, 2012, we’ll release our second album. It’s a full length record, 15 songs. The title of this album is ‘Now & Then’, and on it we are paying respect to the many great songwriters who have come before us, and who are still around and writing now. We’re paying respect in two ways, as musicians, and as ardent... [Read more of this review]

Honesty and Respect

As you read this, we’re in the studio working on our second album. We’ve got about five songs left to record, and we’re hoping to release this record in about May of this year. It’ll have 15 or more songs on it, so it’ll be a good one. This album is about respect to the musicians that came before us and that are around... [Read more of this review]

Welcome to 2012!

We hope the holidays and new year have treated you well. We enjoyed some downtime at home, where we finished configuring the studio and doing some test recordings. On top of that, we also finished a new song, which gave us a perfect chance to test the equipment a little more. If you’d like, you can hear the song over on SoundCloud: http://soundcloud.com/thewestboundband/now-and-then In... [Read more of this review]

Now and Then

We wrote a new song last night. This song started as an fledgling idea in about August, took a little more shape during the fall, and found its real voice once my cat Meanie died. We buried Meanie on December 22nd, right after a winter rainfall. Bitten by the cold wind, feeling the cold mud in my fingers, and laying the baby to rest inspired the last... [Read more of this review]

Birds, Mics and an Outhouse

Real quick update to let ya know about us… We had a real nice weekend off this week, spent a good amount of time workin’ on our old house, diggin’ in the dirt, continuing on setting the studio up and watching birds of all kinds come and go from the newly-hung birdfeeder in the backyard. Appears we have a cardinal family and one beautiful... [Read more of this review]

Review of ‘Blackjack Road’, from Project Backstage

Westbound Blackjack Road Review Posted on 21 March 2011. “Westbound is a two person band from Texas, that has found a niche in a mix of americana, southern rock, root rock and a hint of blues. I was a little skeptical when I first saw that there were only just two members in the band, but when you listen to their music you can not tell a difference.... [Read more of this review]
