Westbound is an incredibly energetic and powerful band from Houston, TX, featuring Rebecca on lead vocals and John on acoustic guitar, backing vocals, stomp-box percussion and harmonica. The band draws from an extensive songlist, playing greasy blues, Americana, folk, rock, outlaw country and jazz. Whether playing originals or covers, Westbound has a distinctive and signature style, and always brings a ton of energy and fun to the stage.
Westbound is currently writing and recording for their debut album, Blackjack Road. Impossible to categorize, Blackjack Road is a journey through the dust-bowl fields of West Texas Americana, the unstoppable energy of Southern stomp-box blues, the soft touch of a tender folk song, and the blistering heat of backroads hammer-down outlaw country.
It is an intense musical journey through the experiences and roots that are the Westbound band.
The album is being recorded, produced and released by the Houston-based independent record label 44 Stone Productions, and will be available as a fully-packaged CD, and by download from iTunes, Amazon and eMusic. A big CD-release party is being planned for the early Fall of 2010, more details on this will be coming soon.
Plans are already made for the next album, with recording to begin in late 2010.
Westbound is playing all over Houston, Galveston, Round Top, Austin, Marble Falls, and Clarksdale, Mississippi. The band is also working with the Arts Institute of Houston, providing music for their Audio Production program, and has been featured in Musician’s Friend advertisements in Guitar Player, Mix, Electronic Musician and Modern Drummer magazines.
